The Wijnhuis in Newlands was founded in 2001 as a sister to the Stellenbosch original.
The unique location and views dictated a noticeable change of look and feel. The
restaurant consists of three levels and has clear views of the eastern slopes of
table mountain. The Newlands area is one of the most forested urban parts of our
country and borders on one of our most historical and famous wine regions, Constantia.
Our clientele is varied with regular guests from the surrounding residential areas and local business making up a large portion of our business. The Wijnhuis makes up part of a small and manicured commercial hub in the heart of the Newlands Villiage which is one of the most sought after and peaceful residential parts of the Cape. Boutique clothing stores such as Desray's fashions and designer stores such as Rozenwerth populate the area along with the original Melissas delicatessen across the road from the Wijnhuis. |
For those who know Cape Town, the Wijnhuis is within walking
distance of Cavendish Square and the famous Vineyard Hotel.
As with the Wijnhuis in Stellenbosch, we offer tastings as well as a wine shop. The menu is aimed somewhat more at business men and locals and less towards tourists. Daily specials make use of the fresh produce from the Wijnhuis's own vegetable and salad farm in the Bovlei in Wellington. A wood fired oven is employed for pizza and several poultry dishes. In summer the patio is preferred and in winter the library with its easy chairs and fireplace. You could also be seated upstairs in our wine cellar, surrounded by wines from the more than 50 different wine estates and producers. All Wijnhuis wines and accessories are available from our retail shop and can be consigned to local and international destinations at competitive rates. |
